Travis Wattigney is a composer based out of Fort Worth, TX for both digital media and the concert stage whose works have received multiple awards and performances across the United States and abroad. Some of these honors include being selected as 1 of 13 winning composers to be showcased at the 2020 International Trumpet Guild Conference, selection of two pieces for the 2020 SCI National Conference, winning the 2018 Tennessee Valley Music Festival Call for Orchestral Scores, and receiving commissions for solo, chamber, and film music. In his music he fuses styles and techniques from various musical eras with the rich history of film and video game music to create immersive aural environments for the duration of his pieces.

Travis (b. 1998) first discovered his passion for music through his dedication to trumpet performance. His development as a performer through participation in chamber, jazz, wind, and orchestral ensembles alike exposed him to the vast possibilities within music and sparked an insatiable curiosity for the culmination and expression of these experiences through composition.

Travis receieved his Bachelors of Music in Music Composition at Stephen F. Austin State University under Dr. Stephen Lias. Additionally, he has received private instruction in composition from Michael Daugherty, Mason Lieberman, Maria Grenfell, Heath Brown, Judy Bozone, Robert J. Coe, and Robert Bradshaw among various other instructors outside of composition.

Creation and performances of his works have been supported by the National Endowment on the Arts, Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild, Alabama State Council on the Arts, The Society of Composers Inc., Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts, SFASU Flute Choir, and many individual supporters. Travis' works are registered with ASCAP.

Subnautica Re-Score

For the past few months I have been working on getting more comfortable in Game Audio Implementation Engines through a personal project inspired by the atmosphere of "Subnautica." I was not familiar with the game at all prior and only watched muted gameplay footage before taking this on. From there I went on to write, record, produce, and implement what I would have done if I were the composer for it. It has been an arduous and rewarding process that I am incredibly happy with the outcome of. Please enjoy these demonstrations.

Musicians: Naarah Barnes - Soprano/Choir, Tasman Compton - Bassoon, Kelli Dixon - Clarinet, David Harvey - Oboe, Kylee Gluskie - Flute, and Matthew Boden - Recording Engineer.

The Awakening Valley for Orchestra

"As the winning composition of a University orchestral composition contest, The Awakening Valley was selected to be performed by the Orchestra of the Pines at SFASU on May 7th, 2019.

This performance took place in Cole Concert Hall in Nacogdoches, TX under the baton of Dr. Pierre-Alain Chevalier. This work was originally premeired by the 2018 Tennessee Valley Music Festival Orchestra on June 7th, 2018, but was revised for this performance.

Program notes: Bringing influence from art forms outside of concert music is a long-standing tradition of composers and, in today’s age, composers have barely scratched the surface of the vast possibilities within the art form of video games. This piece first sprouted from a project for a video game scoring course in which I was instructed to reimagine the score for a game of my choice and attempt to encapsulate its Atmosphere. The Awakening Valley depicts an organic setting in transition from the frigid Winter to a warm Spring season. In this piece I sought to create an otherworldly environment for the listener to be immersed in for the duration of the work. As it progresses, the listener experiences each individual region and all that inhabits it until they reach a peak and are able to take it all in at once. Working with teachers, conductors, individual performers, and full ensembles on this piece has been an incredible learning experience for my first work for orchestra and it absolutely will not be my last."

NieR: Automata Re-score

"This cue demonstrates 3 different levels of action intensity: exploration, moderate action, and high intensity action. Each cue was designed to be able to transition between each other at any point depending on how many enemies are on screen at a given time. They can each be stripped down or intertwined further for the many unique gameplay situations the player would encounter.

As my final project for my Video Game Scoring III class, I was tasked with replacing the music from NieR: Automata as an effort to stretch my boundaries as I was not very well-versed in JRPG's and the music therein.

Performers include: Aubrianne Clark - Alto/C Flute, Fabiana Mosca - Violin, Ryan Lackey - Electric Guitar, and Jason - Bass Guitar"

A Brief Encounter for Flute and Piano

"On October 23rd, 2018 A Brief Encounter was premiered by flutist Aubrianne Clark and pianist Rachel Clark at Cole Concert Hall in Nacogdoches, TX.

Transcriptions for other treble instruments will be available soon, so if you are interested in performing this work yourself contact me below!

Program notes: Every year is fleeting, beautiful, and unique. The memories you make, the relationships you have, and who you are only exist briefly before change occurs. "A Brief Encounter" contains two main figures that flow between collaboration, cooperation, and individuality as a commemoration of those unique times and a reminder to cherish those fleeting facets of life."
